Abortion Information & Resources

At Embrace, we take a survivor-led approach and provide all survivors who have experienced violence with all options available to them and the appropriate resources to help them maintain bodily autonomy and empowerment. Some states have banned abortion or have created a lot of restrictions, which means it can be hard or illegal to get An abortion or the abortion pill. But abortion is still legal in many states, and it’s legal to travel to another state to get an abortion. You can learn more about the laws in your area at AbortionFinder.org. You are not alone. Embrace acknowledges the intersection between reproductive health and gender-based violence. When someone is in an unhealthy relationship, they may feel a sense of powerlessness and lack of autonomy and choice. When survivors are denied reproductive health care, they are more likely to experience violence because they have ongoing contact with their harm-doers, even if they aren’t in a romantic relationship any longer. Survivors denied access to abortion are at an increased risk of lethality from their harm-doer.

Survivors need and deserve autonomy and decision-making power over their bodies, especially after experiencing the trauma of violence. Restricting access to reproductive healthcare sends a strong message to survivors that their body is not their own. Reproductive health and reproductive justice are essential for survivors, as well as an integral part of violence prevention.

When looking for options and/or a place to get an abortion, beware of “crisis pregnancy centers” or “pregnancy resource centers.” These are places that seem like normal medical centers, but they don't provide abortion or a full range of health care options — they often give false or misleading information about pregnancy, abortion, and birth control, and they usually don't have to follow privacy laws. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin or AbortionFinder can help you find a trustworthy abortion provider in your area.
